Maximum BOB

Since none of these bikes are ever done I'll just say the latest update on Robs bike is complete. We did new foot controls with a foot clutch, jockey shift, belt drive, battery, wiring and kicker conversion. Although there's an alien tank sitting here and a wheel change up is in the works as well as different fender/seat combo at least Rob can ride the hell out of it for the rest of our summer weather.

Weekend Update

Man I was Freaking HOT this weekend. We had a lot of fun anyway, a couple of good BBQ's, some horse shoes were tossed and Sunday chop was lazy for me but Bob & Paul got shit done.
Bob enlisted daughter #1 (Mia) to help with wiring & they handled it.
SEANBOY!
We also have a new addition this week. Our old friend Tony brought his triumph over for a front end change up, shake down and a general detailing. I've always liked this bike and it'll be fun getting her back on the road.
That's Paul in his Sunday yamaka

weekend Update #2

Tony & I did a lot of standing around. I enjoyed it.
Paul cleaned the hell out of his motor and is claiming he's only 1/3rd finished. It's a damn shiny mailbox that's for sure

Motor Mount, Scratch Off The List.

My Pan head came to me with the standard el cheapo motor mount. Yes I could've started from scratch but that was Sunday & I was lazy so I started tinkering around & this is what came of it. A bit of finish work and it's ready for the plater. Next, license plate mount which is one of those bits I'm not fond of making.

Amazing Days

It's just way too nice out to be sitting behind a computer.
So I'm not going to

The Weekend That Was

Once again the weekend turned out just great. Sunday Chop has developed into Sunday Chop/BBQ. Two weeks in a row A bunch of people have showed up and cooking broke out, no planning, no invites, Just randomness turning into a ton of food and a great way to end the weekend.
Maximum Bob's back on the road, The BMW had the motor pulled for a top end and the cases cleaned & I made brackets, mounts, more mounts and some other brackets, then a couple more mounts.
GODZIRRA!

Seriously Off Topic, Meatloaf.

I don't think I've ever considered making a meatloaf?
We had so much ground beef left over from Sundays BBQ I thought I'd give it a go. My typical cooking style is winging it which worked out very well, the loaf was a big hit. We fed four, most went for seconds and there's enough left for a lunchtime sandwich.
If your a fan of meatloaf click the recipe, print it & let me know how it goes.

ERWN SR500 Update

The bike was picked up two weeks ago yesterday.
The owner hasn't been capable of starting it let alone riding the hell out of it?
I'm glad I busted my ass on that one, Bummed.

At the Grocery

Went to the grocery yesterday to pick up some BBQ fixins and right there front & center is Flat Iron Mikes AI cover which is super cool & fun to see it displayed for the world to see.
However what made me want to purchase the mag was the fitness article on "developing upper strength for steering a bike." ???

Death on the water?

Vintage Drag Boats
I had saved a photo of a paint scheme from on one of these type of boats that I was considering for my pan head project, now I can't find it. The new search results brought up some really beautiful late 60's-70's resto work. Everybody's into something.
I never did find the photo.

RIP Les Paul 1915-2009

Les Paul was an amazing musician, his jams with Chet Atkins are legendary.
Most notably Les Paul was the developer & innovator of the solid body electric guitar.
His Gibson models will always be of the best.
Jimmy Page, Carl Perkins, Peter Framton, Ace Frehly, Randy Rhodes, Slash, Mike Ness, Dave Grohl, all have made a Les Paul sing, You know, you've heard it.

On The Short List

Straight from the Motor City, the Zen Of Neto Blog is packed with good photos & to the point content but what got my attention was the 5 day Pan head build that went from shop fresh to the salt of Bonnieville.

FLH small Battery Conversion, Tray & Support

Since Bob recently decided to convert his 76 FLH to kick only & a small battery is all that's needed. This past weekend Bob bent up a battery tray and I came up with this funky support brace. Now everything tucks in nicely.
Add the stainless hardware and it's a go.

A Bit More Haro History.

Over the years I've had the opportunity to hob knob with many celebrities and or musicians & I can honestly say the only time I was purely star struck was when I met Bob Haro.
Today I'm happy to call Bob a friend. Here's a bit of my childhood inspiration.
"Shown here is my original hand made BMX number plate - hand-cut from a 4x8 sheet of LDPE plastic most likely in my parents living room while watching the 6 Million Dollar Man. Back then each plate was hand-cut, drilled, riveted, decaled then heated over mom's stove then bent to a handle bar jig. Can you say "low tech"? Note they were called Factory Plates NOT Haro back then - this was the true original BMX plate. If you find one on Ebay snag-it - I'm sure it's worth some loot to some OS BMXer!"

Sportster Knee

The problems develop when a worn bushing on the starter clutch causes the gears to slip out of mesh in the beginning of a kick, and your leg slams straight and tries to bend the knee in the wrong direction. It's called "Sportster knee".

What other Harley, or motorcycle for that matter, has crippled more people than the legendary Sportster kickstart? If rebounding compression wasn’t dislocating the knee or throwing the rider over the handlebars then the slip-through kick start gears extend the leg past where its supposed to go .snapping the kneecap. Sportster knee, the tell tale limp, familiar with riders of the era is a badge of honor. The electric start has saved a whole generation from this mind numbing pain. This "half-a-Harley" with a short man complex is meaner than a junk yard dog?

Well Pat's Ironhead has developed some carb & charging issues so while trying to get it all figured out he had the kicker slip through twice. The first one only required some ice and a couple days off his feet the second one happened a week ago and broke a chunk off one of his leg bones, now he's hobbling for 6 or 8 weeks with a piece of bone floating around in there.
Then last night we all were trying to get it figured out and the damn thing did it to me. I hopped around in a huge amount of pain, made uncontrollable noises you only hear at the zoo or a swingers party, started sweating profusely and fighting consciousness. All that passed in 10 or 15 minuets. Today I'm sore as hell and I'm sure it looks pretty funny the two of us limping around at the same time.
Anyone have a juice starter set up for a 76 XLCH on the cheap?

World Of Knowledge, MOTORCYCLES

There are good amount of sites/blogs out there that do such a great job of digging up & posting up historic MC info of all eras that I always assumed BCM would just leave that side things to them. For one it takes a lot of time, also I'm not so knowledgeable in that arena and use them for my own education.
In attempt to take back their home my parents have been slowly shipping what's left of my belongings and one of the more recent packages was a box of my old books. The World Of Knowledge I assume was some sort of series? However I only cared about the Motorcycle book and for a long time was my favorite. Published in 1976, this book covers a good amount of stock bikes from most manufacturers as well as some of their racing efforts, below is the page on the Harley Davidson RR-250 which briefly brought the dominant Yamaha squad to their knees.

The Erwin SR is Done & Gone.

Well yesterday Erwin showed up with his immaculate little box trailer, I went over all the ins and outs of the bike then gave him a quick starting procedure lesson and proceeded to watch him gear up with a new "vintage" silver metal flake helmet, aviators & some bitchin new gloves then attempt to get the kicker to move let alone start the thing. After a few minuets I started it for him. he mounted up for his "test ride", drug clutch up the street & disappeared. I turned and ask Bob how long should I wait to go rescue him? Bob said "UMMM 10 minuets?"
Ten minuets went by, I got on my bike and found him right around the corner. he starts frantically waving me over, new gear thrown in the bushes, sweat pouring off his face, I pull up and he says It just died, it just died at the light. I roll my eyes give it half a kick it fires right up. " I thought it would be like a new Japanese bike" He says.
I take off back to the house, he follows, Bob and load the bike and send him on his way.
I probably should've included a nice set of links so he could wear it around his neck at the club.
Hey Bill, remember when you sold that gold Triumph?

ahhhh. Another fine Weekend.

On Saturday we got a bunch of work done until late afternoon when Bob & I took the SR's and headed over to Hensley's Pub for a bike/car gathering, I did more talking than shooting pictures but here's a few. As always It was great to see a bunch of friends.
Sunday, a couple people came and went as Bob and I got a quite a bit of work done on his shovel. Thanks for the parts Joel.

It's an X Games Weekend.

Last night in a bout of SR500 fueled insomnia I caught some of the past two days highlights.
Anthony Napolitan DOUBLE front flip over the 70 footer on the mega ramp!
Also Cool to see Pastrana bring the RM125 back even though his 720 flat spin thing sent him down pretty hard. I imagine the powers that be over at Subaru were freaking on that one.
Danny Way!
Good weekend to you.
